We have secured a Bellingham venue for the premier of Ben Stookesberry and Jesse Coombs‘ latest expedition kayaking adventure: ‘Hotel Charley 2′. These local boys turned global kayaking missionaries are back in the jungles of Columbia, Mexico, Costa Rica, and India exploring some of the most beautiful whitewater gorges in the world.
Ben Stookesberry and Rafa Ortiz tackling the huge waters of the Siang River, India.
In addition, Bryan Smith, who recently won the “Best of Festival” and “Accomplished General” categories at the National Paddling Film Festival, will be down from Squamish to show his winning film: ‘BC Summer 2006′. He’ll also give us an early preview of his latest: ‘49 Megawatts’, which documents recent controversies over hydropower development in BC (read more here).
Since creating this segment for LVM Video, Bryan has expanded the scope of ‘49 Megawatts’ to provide a balanced look at the issue, including viewpoints from industry representatives, members of communities, and others affected by these projects.
So, mark your calendars for April 16, 2007, Broadway Hall (click here for a map). Doors will open at 6 PM, and the first film will start at 7. Cost is $6 for the general public, $5 for students. We’ll also be selling beer for $3 (bring your ID!), and Bandito’s Burritos is providing a chips and salsa bar.
We’ll once again be raffling off some great schwag- items so far include a Chronic playboat from Necky Kayaks/Johnson Outdoors, a half price, week-long trip to Ecuador from Small World Adventures (an $800 value!), 25 free burritos as well as 1 free salsa a month (for life!) from Bandito’s Burritos, and a carbon-fiber Werner bent-shaft paddle plus tons of great gear from Yeager’s Paddle Shop. Should be lots of good fun!
A special thank-you to our major sponsor Yeager’s for supporting us once again. Thanks also go out to Copy Source for help with printing. All proceeds from this movie premier will support American Whitewater’s river stewardship efforts in the Northwest, particularly those associated with hydropower development issues in British Columbia.
