About
So, what is the RPP? About this site…
The RPP is a group of whitewater paddlers living in and around Bellingham, Washington. So, what does RPP stand for? River Paddlers for Peace? Rocket Powered Paddles? The answer, my friend, may be the most closely guarded secret in western Washington. This isn’t to say that we are an exclusive group, however. Over the past couple of years, RPP folks have helped beginning paddlers learn river skills such as rolling and water-reading, and have enthusiastically welcomed newcomers to the Bellingham whitewater scene. We’ve also taken an active role in communicating the concerns of local paddlers to various management agencies.
Additionally, the RPP has worked to bring in and present kayaking films to the Bellingham community as fundraisers for American Whitewater, a national organization devoted to conserving and restoring America’s whitewater resources, and to enhancing opportunities to enjoy them safely. Complete with raffles, music, tasty beverages, and free schwag, these showings have been a lot of fun and have exposed whitewater kayaking to the non-paddling public.
As such, these events have served as an excellent vehicle for generating awareness for river conservation and stewardship issues, particularly those that impact paddling in the Pacific Northwest. This site evolved as a way to further share images, stories, and information about whitewater paddling in Washington, British Columbia, and elsewhere. We also intend it as a place to learn about and discuss the conservation, stewardship, and access issues that impact the rivers that we enjoy.
We hope that you stop by often to check for new articles, photos, and event information. We also encourage you to contribute your thoughts by signing up and adding your comments. Thanks for checking us out, and we hope to see you out on the river sometime soon!
